Description
DeLorean DMC-12 is a unique sports car famous for its stainless-steel body and gullwing doors. Built by the DeLorean Motor Company, about 8,583 units were made before the company closed in 1982. This model has a service history available. Its striking stainless-steel body gives it a sleek, futuristic look, and the iconic gullwing doors open upwards, needing less space. Inside, it’s simple yet stylish, with leather seats and essential controls. Powered by a 2.85L V6 engine producing 130hp and paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission, the DMC-12 offers moderate performance but is loved for its bold design and pop culture status.
History
The DeLorean DMC-12 became one of the most iconic cars of the 1980s with its futuristic stainless-steel body, sharp wedge design by Giorgetto Giugiaro, and signature gull-wing doors. Founded by engineer John DeLorean, the car was produced in Northern Ireland between 1981 and 1983 as the only model from the DeLorean Motor Company. Although praised for its unique appearance, the DMC-12 struggled with quality issues, high pricing, and modest performance from its 2.85L PRV V6 engine, leading the company to collapse in 1982. Despite its short production run, the car achieved legendary status worldwide after starring as the time machine in the movie trilogy Back to the Future, making it one of the most recognizable collector cars ever built.
